Majorelle Garden

Visit the iconic blue garden and YSL museum

Jardin Majorelle is one of the most visited and most photographed destinations in all of Morocco — and it is easy to understand why. Created in the 1920s and 1930s by French artist Jacques Majorelle, who spent forty years collecting and planting exotic species from around the world, the garden is a living, breathing botanical masterpiece. Towering cacti, trailing bamboo groves, reflecting pools filled with water lilies, and cascading bougainvillea are set against the extraordinary deep cobalt blue that Majorelle made his own and that now bears his name.

The garden was later purchased and restored by fashion legend Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé, who fell in love with Marrakech and made it their second home. Today the site also houses the Berber Museum, dedicated to the art and traditions of Morocco's indigenous people, as well as the Fondation Pierre Bergé — Yves Saint Laurent, which celebrates the designer's iconic body of work. A visit to the YSL Museum next door is highly recommended and can be combined into a single afternoon outing.

The garden is located in the Ville Nouvelle district, a short taxi ride from the medina. We recommend visiting early in the morning when it is quietest and the light is most beautiful for photography. We can arrange tickets in advance and coordinate transport from your villa to avoid any queuing on the day.
